About Old Post Books

Books arrive with ancestors, and a review that ignores them is only half written. Old Post Books reads new fiction and nonfiction beside the older work it descends from, tracing influence, translation, imprint history and the editions that shaped how a text reached us. The readership is unhurried: people who keep shelves, who reread, who will chase a footnote into a secondhand catalog, and who want criticism that remembers what came before this season.

Every piece begins with a complete reading. Reviews name what a book is attempting and judge whether it succeeds, quoting enough to let a reader disagree. Where a first edition, a translator or a restored text changes the case, that gets said. Coverage is not tied to publication week. We refuse blurb-writing, we refuse reviews built from a publisher's summary, and we do not soften a verdict because an author is admired.

Books is the general desk, covering new releases, backlist recoveries and editions worth owning. Literature takes the longer view of form, movements and translation. History follows publishing and reading as historical practice, from print runs to censorship, while Reviews carries the verdicts themselves. Books News reports prizes, rediscoveries, estates and reissues; Business News covers the trade beneath all of it, including bookshops, rights and print economics.
